What social/economic/technological trends do you think will have the greatest impact on car design in 2018?
Generation X & Y car buyers will have increased environmental consciousness & desire to make the world a better place. Consumers will be unwilling to trade performance for fuel economy, but they will pay more for green. Generation-Y buyers will demand more connectivity and customisation in their vehicles. People will generally expect better driver and pedestrian protection.

What technologies will be key in 2018?

Non-petroleum energy sources, electrical storage devices (batteries), cleaner burning fuel, lightweight materials, reduced tailpipe emissions. Connectivity will be more important – media integration, internet and cellular connectivity. Technologies to manage crash energy and chassis/driveline stability control will become more important to buyers.

How will your products and business sector develop?
Solutions vs. single product offerings. We will be in fuel cells, exhaust filters for cleaner environment, lighter weight materials, advanced energy absorption materials, enablers for alternative energy devices

What skills/specialities will you need from engineers in 2018?
Engineers will need a broader understanding of a wide range of materials and electromechanical design. They’ll need creativity mixed with expertise with computer aided engineering tools
