Social, economic, technical trends of 2018
There will be different approaches taken in Europe, America and Asia’s mega cities to manage populations and vehicles. Peoples’ increasing size and weight will make access an issue.
In Europe, elderly peoples’ purchasing power for vehicles will increase – they’ll have different expectations needing good seating and vehicle access. Bigger driving interfaces and displays.

More and more decision makers will be women too. They tend to be more practical in their purchase decisions, more concerned with the function, less concerned with the technology itself. We need designs and technologies to recognise this.

Key technologies for 2018 will be in control systems to save energy, increasing use of aluminium and magnesium for structural parts will help reduce weight.

Skills and specialisms
It will be important to think globally and understand the needs of Asia, Europ and Eastern European, North and South American drivers. We have to go beyond platforms so that we have technologies that can be adapted for different regions’ needs.
