CO2 reduction, car electronics and entertainment electronics
will have the greatest impact on car design in 2018. Fuel efficient transmissions,
electric drives, and small hybrids will be key technologies for OEMs.
We expect standard automatics to be replaced by dual clutch transmissions
in some segments and developed markets to introduce more electric machines
either as hybrid or for short range purely electrical vehicles. Emerging
markets will use cheap, fuel-efficient and simple automatic transmissions.
The engineer of 2018 will need skills in electronic engineering, software
and system engineering.
