MAN ready to expand its Austrian plant

July 2007

Bus and truck maker MAN has frozen redundancies at its Steyr plant, Austria until 2012. In return workers have agreed to measures that will save the firm €9.5 million per year.

MAN plans to increase production of vehicles and cabs at the site from 23,000 and 31,000 to 30,000 and 50,000 respectively by 2012. The firm is investing €100 million in the plant over the next five years.

MAN chairman Bruno Krainz said: “The main concern in the next few years will be managing the expansion at the site” Staff have accepted changes to working hours, pay and holidays.
