Toshiba puts thin films into heavyweight tasks

July 2007

Toshiba Electronics Europe has developed a highly integrated system-on-chip processor.

Instrument clusters are using more thin film transistor (TFT) displays to convey information to the driver.

Called Capricorn-A, Toshiba’s processor provides cost-effective driving and management of display tasks.

This will be important as OEMs introduce TFT screens, now mainly in luxury cars, into lower segment vehicles.

The Capricorn A’s high level of integration cuts component count and costs and fewer external PCB tracks reduce EMC shielding requirements.
