| With one third of customers specifying quattro, Audi claims to be the leader in the premium four-wheel drive segment and predicts that it will become even more popular in the future.
In 2006 33.1 per cent of all Audis sold had quattro four-wheel drive – a record installation rate.
“Audi equips a greater proportion of its vehicles with four wheel-drive than any other manufacturer,” said Ralph Weyler, member of the board of management for marketing and sales. “That is especially true of our saloons and Avant models. We have the unique selling proposition that all of the models in our current range are available with four-wheel drive.
A total of 306,318 quattro models in 2006 was an increase of more than 87,000 from 2005. The new Q7 SUV alone contributed a six per cent increase, with 72,188 units produced last year.
Like the RS 4 and the R8, the latest generation of the quattro system fitted to the Q7 splits engine torque 40:60 between the front and rear axles.
