| Six new market segments are to be embraced as part of ambitious plans by Audi AG to achieve global sales of more than one million units in the next three years.
The German brand continues to chase rival BMW for supremacy across premium sectors in major markets and its success will not be dependent on any single segment, according to officials of its UK subsidiary.
A spokesman said: “We have moved from offering just five car lines in 1996 to a range that now extends to 21 models. Our policy has been to seek fresh directions rather than overheat any particular market sector.
“That policy is set to continue – in fact it will be accelerated as six new models are brought on stream this year and the plan is for us to maintain this pace of model introductions right through to 2015,” said a spokesman.
Audi is set to further extend powertrain diversity by offering its DSG twin-clutch automatic transmission system, which it has now renamed Stronic, with longitudinal engine layouts.
