Honda plans to sell Acura cars in Japan

December 2005

By Nargess Shahmanesh-Banks

Honda has said that it will start selling its Acura cars in the Japanese market by 2008.

The move marks the latest for a Japanese carmaker to introduce its luxury models to the local market, where new-car sales have remained at about 5.9 million units, following their success in the US.

The move follows rival Japanese carmaker, Toyota's decision to sell its premium brand, Lexus back home. Other local carmaker, Nissan has also announced plans to launch its Infiniti luxury brand there after 2008.
