Maybach heads for China

June 2004

By Dean Slavnich

DaimlerChrysler’s relentless pursuit for more market share in China took a new turn last night when a Mercedes-Benz exec announced that Maybach 62 and 57 models were to be made available to Chinese consumers with immediate affect.

Speaking at a press conference highlighting the plight of Mercedes in China, Dr Joachim Schmidt, executive vice president Mercedes car group, said: “With immediate effect, Maybach 62 and Maybach 57 will officially come into the mainland China market. Later this year Maybach showrooms will be set up in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou."

Schmidt says the economy of mainland China has shown dynamic growth since China's entry into the WTO, justification for Maybach to go on sale there.

"Maybach represents leading-edge technology and superior performance combined with the ultimate in exclusivity and quality. These are the core attributes upon which the new Maybach bases its claim of being the world's finest prestige saloon,” he added.
