PSA start mass production of manual gearbox

8 April 2008

PSA Peugeot Citroen is starting mass production of a new six-speed gear box at its Valenciennes site in Northern France.

The Mechanical Compact Manual (MCM) is a manual version of the Mechanical Compact Piloted (MCP) which has been produced since 2006.

Nearly 200,000 MCP gearboxes have been produced to date and Peugeot intends the MCM will contribute to the long-term employment of the 2,600 workforce at the site.

PSA’s director of transmission developments and hybrids, Christian Chebab said the gearbox could reduce fuel consumption by up to 5 per cent and help cut CO2 emissions.

The Peugeot 308 will be the first vehicle fitted with the equipment and it will also be installed in the Citroën C4 and C4 Picasso.
