As one of the architects behind BMW's acquistion of Rolls-Royce Motors, it was a shock move, but the opportunuity to go and head up Alfa Romeo proved irresistible.

Kalbfell played a key role in the new lease of life Rolls-Royce has enjoyed since being taken over by BMW. He not only oversaw the development of the Phantom, but he was also instrumental in the development of the Goodwood factory.
