Scooby-do celebrates WRC in style

January 2004

By Dean Slavnich

To Celebrate Petter Solberg winning the driver’s title in the 2003 World Rally Championship, Subaru has announced plans to introduce a special edition Impreza WRX STi.

The WRX STi: the fastest ever Impreza built

Codenamed the WR1, it is thought the new Impreza will feature a host of technical features, such as a driver’s control centre-differential (DCCD) function via a switch mounted next to the handbrake.

The DCCD technology allows for torque distribution between front and rear wheels to be manually selected allowing for sharper cornering and more stable straight-line running.

The WR1 – of which only 500 units will be built – should offer a power output around 320 ps (234 kW). Subaru insiders say the tweaked Impreza will be able to sprint to 100 km/h in less than 4.5 seconds, making it the fastest, most powerful Impreza ever made.
