July 2004

Saab has revealed ambitious plans for further growth in China.

The Saab 9-3 will go on sale in China by the end of this month

Saab disclosed its revised strategy when CEO Peter Augustsson confirmed the 9-3 saloon will go on sale in China by the end of July. Said Augustsson: “Saab has a heritage of building high-quality, sporty and dynamic cars that stand out from the crowd.

“We expect Saab’s understated European styling and high performance to appeal to Chinese consumers, just like they appeal to vehicle buyers in Sweden and around the world."

The 9-3 will join the Saab 9-5 in China, and GM’s chairman of the GM China Group feels both Saab saloons have a specific role to play in the world’s fastest growing market.

Phil Murtaugh explained: “We are bringing in Saab products that meet the specific demands of well-educated and discerning professionals in China. These are people who seek something different to conventional premium saloons.”
