Smart-Brabus opens new HQ in Bottrop, Germany

Having established a joint venture in March 2002, Smart and tuning company Brabus have now established an HQ in Bottrop, Germany. In addition to ultra-modern vehicle workplaces, the building built with an investment of €16 million accommodates a development department with computer-assisted test benches and also the administrative headquarters of the joint venture. Furthermore there is a smart centre on site where customers can view and buy the range of products. With the decision to set up the headquarters at this location, Smart-Brabus GmbH created 120 new jobs in Bottrop.

The joint venture develops exclusive accessories for the whole Smart product range, uprated engines and a series-produced Brabus design and equipment line for all cars of the Smart brand. In addition to this, small series of special Smart models will be produced at the new company headquarters in Bottrop.

"With the opening of the smart-Brabus HQ we are giving a clear signal for the further expansion of the joint venture which has already been extremely profitable," said Andreas Renschler, Smart president.

Smart-Brabus president Bodo Buschmann added: "Our track record to date is impressive. In 2003, the Smart Fortwo Brabus already made up an impressive two per cent of total sales of this model range of more than 100,000 vehicles. The special models such as the Smart roadster edition bluewave, and the exclusive Brabus Accessories for Smart models are also proving extremely popular."
