| A new line of brakes callipers
that promise to offer outstanding performance at very competitive prices
have been introduced into the marketplace by TRW Automotive.
Among the new designs is the company’s FBC calliper, which features
an innovative pin to pad configuration that not only allows for precise
pad loading but also reduces brake noise. Further improving NVH performance
is the fully sealed pad guiding system that also leads to a more robust
braking system.
The new design offers customers greater brake torque within a given wheel.
What’s more, TRW claims the lining area measures up to 25 per cent
more than competitive designs, leading to greater durability and an appreciable
increase in lining life.
AE has learnt that the FBC calliper has already been selected by at least
one major European OEM for two passenger car models beginning production
in 2007.
Said Josef Pickenhahn, vice president, brake engineering, TRW Automotive:
“Feedback from customers has been very positive so far.
“Those who have tested the new calliper report a confident brake
response with superior pedal feel and a number of customers in North America
and Europe are evaluating the calliper for new vehicle models.”
The flexibility of the new calliper is such that it can be fitted to vehicles
weighing up to 4.5 tons, allowing the system to be easily used across
a range of car, SUV, light truck and small commercial vehicles.
The calliper designs makes use of lightweight materials such as aluminium
in the calliper housing and the piston to offer weight savings leading
to enhanced fuel economy.
TRW has said there are twin piston versions under consideration for applications
requiring more stopping power.
