Delphi wins patents on CADCAM methodologies

Delphi Technologies has been awarded two patents on ideas within CADCAM that should reduce the costs of product and process design and lead to increased productivity.

The two technologies are part of Delphi's Design Methodologies (DDM), a set of standardised methodologies that help to make better use of CAD systems.

The first patent, for the horizontal structured manufacturing process model, allows for a 3D in-process model element to link to its corresponding 3D master model while being in a different file location.

Diane Landers, CAD coordinator at Delphi Steering and one of the inventors of the method, said: "This allows complete machining sequences and operations to be performed without encountering file size limitation, providing greater business flexibility and process efficiency."”

The second patent is for the vertical to horizontal conversion process and converts vertical models to a horizontal format. It has particular relevance to legacy data, Delphi claims.

"This process may allow engineers to salvage old data by reconstructing a portion of the feature structure of the data, thus making it useful to a new design," said Kevin Marseilles, advanced manufacturing designer at Delphi Steering.
