| Ascari Cars, the exclusive manufacturer of KZ1 and A10 supercars, is set to undergo a “step-change” for the next generation of its cars, and will be using Dassault Systemes’ Catia V5 software to make it possible. “Our attention is turning to future generations of Ascari Cars,” says Pete Manners, design manager at Ascari, “and using Catia V5, we now have a single data source and a clear product development path, so that all the information from KZ1 can be easily accessed for any future design project – for road or race”. Ascari deals in very small volumes, and will make only 50 KZ1s and ten A10s in total at its UK site, but as each vehicle is personalised for individual owners it’s important that there is a consistent system in place to track changes. “We needed to find a single system to consolidate all our data, and pave the way for future generations of Ascari Cars,” says Manners, “design and engineering knowledge needs to reside within the computer network rather than the engineer. The digital representation is the master, and with a complex engineering project there may be hundreds of versions that all need to be kept up to date with every single change and iteration.” The V5 package does this updating automatically, so that there is a traceable path for the development of every component and part used.
