Hella opens in Romania inside 10 months

September 2006

Automotive supplier Hella has opened a new factory in Timisoara, Romania ten months after construction began.

The 13,000m2 plant represents an investment by Hella of €10 million and will manufacture electronic components and systems such as pedal sensors, xenon ballasts, heating control units and overhead control units. Body electronics are an area of strong growth for the company.

Hella will initially employ 200 staff, with the expectation that this headcount will double by 2007. The nearby technical university in Timisoara, with 4,500 students of electronics and IT, is expected to provide a stream of highly qualified personnel.

Located 1.5km from the local airport, the plant also has a direct link to production. Provision has been made for future expansion and Hella is starting a development division for body electronics.
