Bosch is to work with transmission specialist Getrag on hybrid systems. The pair are to develop and marketing parallel-hybrid systems in conjunction with dual-clutch transmissions and electrical final drive units, featuring directly integrated electric motors.

A statement by the two said the dual clutch transmission type has been chosen because of its ease of use and efficient operation, the latter being of particular importance since it contributes directly to improved fuel economy.

Bosch said: “The aim of the co-operation is to develop and market parallel hybrid systems with dual-clutch transmissions. The development is activated by ourselves, but we are in close discussions with several potential customers who are very interested in this technology.

“We will deliver systems for prototype cars in the short term. It is possible that production of the first cars with this hybrid system could be in 2010. For 2015 we see a market of about 2.5 million hybrid systems in total, of which 60 per cent could be parallel hybrids, and of those a quarter could have dual clutch transmissions.”
