DETROIT, MI - General Motors and DaimlerChrysler have signed the contract that was agreed in December to develop a two-mode hybrid system that’ll be deployable across a wide range of vehicles , according to the Wall Street Journal. The deal will split hybrid development between the two companies.
DaimlerChrysler will take the lead for rear-drive luxury cars while GM will be responsible for developing the hybrid system to be used in trucks, SUVs, and front-drive cars and crossovers. The first vehicles to receive the systems in 2007 will be the Chevrolet Tahoe/GMC Yukon SUVs, while Dodge will follow soon after with the Durango .
