Steel studs provide watertight fixings

February 2006

Fastenings group Profil has launched new NBR plain studs for automatic insertion in pressed components as part of the automotive industry’s production processes.

The heavy duty 14mm diameter and 40mm long steel studs use Profil’s piercing technology to provide watertight fixings in both plain and coated structural panels, with an absolute positional accuracy of ±0.2mm.

The studs are suitable for materials from 0.6 to 4.0mm thick and are designed to be used in modular and robotic assembly systems using machine vision.

Profil says the NBR studs are already being tried out by several major motor manufacturers.
