Optimising development of vehicle diagnostics

August 2004

Vector Informatik has significantly expanded its CANdelaStudio product, the requirements engineering tool for the diagnostic development process. Now electronic control unit (ECU) documents can be compared with one another using CANdelaStudio's new "Diff functionality". In addition to support of diagnostic trouble code import (DTC Import) from an external file and easier editing of the fault memory, export to ODX 1.1.4 format has also been optimized in Version 3.0 which is available immediately.

It is now easy to display changes made between two versions of a ECU diagnostic description with CANdelaStudio's Diff functionality. This allows the user to recognise changes to documents that are not described in the revision history.

With regard to diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) more detailed and comprehensive descriptions can be clearly displayed and modified due to expanded fault memory processing. To optimally support different types of applications the user may choose between a summary view of all errors and a detailed view.

Version 3.0 of CANdelaStudio

Version 3.0 of CANdelaStudio supports the re-use of DTCs and their descriptions across a large number of ECU documents. This is facilitated by an easy method for importing DTCs from an external file, which accelerates the input of data and keeps DTC definitions consistent.

ODX (Open Diagnostic Exchange) format is being used increasingly by CANdelaStudio users. Therefore, export to ODX format was also expanded in Version 3.0 of CANdelaStudio.
