TVR has announced an agreement with powertrain technology provider Ricardo
to help develop its ‘Speed Six’ engine to Euro 5 compliance.
TVR’s current engine is used in a number of its cars, including
the Sagaris and Tamora, but does not comply with the latest emission standards,
which has prevented the company from selling abroad in the US since January.
TVR’s owner, 26 year old Russian millionaire Nikolai Smolenski,
who bought the company in 2004, said: “My intention is to expand
the sales and distribution of TVR cars throughout Europe, the rest of
the world and US markets is a key part of the business strategy of the
company. Our alliance with Ricardo allows us to advance our technical
capabilities to achieve our aims at an accelerated rate.”
TVR has previously stated that it wants to up its production rates from
present levels of around 500 cars per year up to closer to 2,000, bringing
it more in line with companies such as Aston Martin.
The aim of the proposed 18 months of collaboration between TVR and Ricardo
will be to achieve Euro 5 certification for TVR’s engine - increasing
the number of territories where the car can be sold.
CEO of Ricardo plc, Dave Shermans, said: “We are delighted to support
TVR with its development and we look forward to bringing the very best
of Ricardo engineering expertise to such an exciting brand and product
range.”
