Bosch signs licence for NOx reduction technology

21 May 2007

German-owned components giant Robert Bosch has signed a non-exclusive deal to license Clean Diesel Technologies' selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology for cutting NOx emissions from diesel engines.

The agreement covers the SCR patents owned by Clean Diesel Technologies and the combination of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) with SCR to minimise emissions while maximising engine efficiency.

Clean Diesel has developed the Aris method of single-fluid return-flow cooled urea injection for SCR control of NOx emissions. The company has recently won its first deal to supply the technology to an unnamed vehicle maker, and the Bosch deal follows from this.

Clean Diesel CEO Bernhard Steiner said the Bosch contract was a "significant step" for the company. "Clean Diesel has had prior agreements with major companies addressing retrofit markets, and this is the first licence targeting a substantial portion of the new diesel vehicles with SCR technology that are predicted to be built over the next several years," he said.
