| Transmissions group BorgWarner expects to quadruple sales of its dual-clutch technology within the next six years, it said today. The company said that it expected to be selling 2.3 million of its DualTronic units a year. At the same time, it said it expected new generation dual clutch technology to give fuel savings over and above those delivered by the present technology. BorgWarner estimates that present dual cluitch systems help save around 5 per cent of fuel costs, but developments in materials and control systems would lead to a further 2 per cent saving. President and general manager Bernd Matthes said that the group was working on shortening the product development cycle time to get new systems into the market faster. • Last week, BorgWarner announced that it expected to add $1.95 billion of new business in the next three years, an increase of 15 per cent over the increase of the past three years. Chairman and CEO Timothy Manganelo said: "We believe our fuel-efficient technology will clearly be a strong growth catalyst for new business." Drivetrain components including dual clutch transmissions account for around 22 per cent BorgWarner businss: the other 78 per cent comes from engine technologies such as turbochargers, ignition systems and emissions products.
