Honda appoints Brawn to head Formula One team

12 November 2007

Former Scuderia Ferrari technical chief Ross Brawn has been unveiled as the new team principal for the under-performing Honda Formula One team.

Brawn, who is 52, led Ferrari to unprecedented success in Formula One and joins the Honda team after its worst season in the sport. The team took just six championship points all year, and its leading driver Jensen Button had been reported as threatening to leave.

Brawn has not been a team principal before, but has enjoyed success in technical roles at both Benetton and Ferrari. "The opportunity to help the team to realise its potential represents a fantastic new challenge," he said.

Honda F1 chief executive Nick Fry will stay in post, but senior technical director Shuhei Nakajima moves to a new role where he will be responsible for ensuring the flow of research ideas from Honda in Japan into the team.
