| VW will spend $1 billion on Mexican plant upgrades | 1 February 2008 |

Volkswagen chairman Martin Winterkorn has confirmed that the group will invest a further $1 billion in its plant at Puebla, Mexico. VW has put $2 billion in the facility over the past five years, but is widely rumoured to be considering a new plant in North America to supply the US market, where it expects to see substantial growth. Any new plant would probably be inside the US. Winterkorn said the new investment in Mexico would be to produce the Jetta and to optimise production facilities. Winterkorn was in Mexico to celebrate 10 years of the New Beetle at the
Puebla plant, which coincided with the seventh million vehicle and one
millionth New Beetle produced there.
