Iranian carmaker to major on CNG vehicles

19 February 2008

Iranian carmaker Iran Khodro says it will make between 200,000 and 250,000 cars with compressed natural gas (CNG) engines in the Iranian calendar year that starts on 20 March.

IKCO managing director Manouchehr Manteghi told the Central News Bureau at the foundation ceremony for an Iran Khodro plant in the northern city of Babol said the gas engine cars will be brought to market next winter.

Manteghi added that 60 per cent of cars that Iran Khodro is producing are of bi-fuel (gasoline-CNG) types. He said that most of the next generation of cars will have CNG engines.
