Filter material takes out particulates

July 2007

Filtration company Mann & Hummel is introducing a new cabin filter medium containing a greater proportion of nanofibres than previous materials.

The materials are intended for use inside vehicles to stop penetration of small particles such as diesel particulates into the passenger compartment.

The nanofibres trap particles from a few nanometres up to hundreds of microns. Some of the particles that are eliminated by the filter material are known to have the potential to cause or aggravate serious health problems in humans.

The filter medium is supplied with an activated carbon layer that adsorbs odours. It can also be used for purifying the airflow from air conditioning units, removing ozone.

Mann & Hummel will start making the filter in the third quarter of 2007.
