Build-your-own Lamborghini: at a dealer near you, soon |
30 October 2007 |
|||||
| Prospective Lamborghini owners will now be able to customise their own vehicle from the comfort of their local dealer. The upmarket sportscar maker has developed a configurator system that will be rolled out to 104 dealers and allow customers to see on screen the car they want to build, with all the options. The heart of the Lamborghini Configurator system is RTT POS software from Realtime Technology, a Munich-based company that specialises in virtual reality software. Lamborghini and Siemens will deliver the system to dealers by the end of this year. The 3D system allows customers to assemble their vehicle at the dealer. As well as traditional configurator options, such as exterior colour and interior specifications, the system also includes details such as seat trim and seams. The entire technical configuration can also be called up. In addition, customers can mix their own colours and add non-standard items. Through an internet link they can get a price quote for the options they have picked. The system runs on a high end Fujitsu-Siemens workstation and a tablet PC, and the results are displayed on a 50-inch plasma screen.
