  Autosar releases latest specifications

11 April 2008

The development partnership Autosar (AUTomotive Open System ARchitecture) has published a new version of its specifications. Release 3.0 includes standardised application interfaces for powertrains and chassis.

Autosar members are free to use the specifications. They include BMW, Bosch, Continental, Daimler, Ford, Opel, PSA Peugeot Citroën, Toyota and Volkswagen, but more than 120 firms have joined the organisation since 2003.

Its aim is to apply an open, standardised software architecture for control units in motor vehicles. The first vehicles with Autosar elements are already scheduled for launch this year.

Autosar spokesman and Bosch systems integration chief Dr Jürgen Mössinger said: “Autosar can master the increasing complexity of automotive software and can reduce development costs considerably.”

The latest version has also increased the number of standardised application interfaces has for the body and explanatory documents have been prepared for all domains’ interfaces.

Autosar has harmonised the concept for wakeup of ECUs and start-up of networks in the vehicle too. There are now also state managers for the bus systems CAN, LIN, and FlexRay.
