Fuel cell development company Proton Power Systems has announced a tie-up with automotive engineering consultancy AVL List to work on fuel cell hybrid technology and measurement systems. AVL will bring powerttrain engineering expertise to the partnership, while Proton, a UK-owned Germany-based group, is providing its proton exchange membrane fuel cell technology. The three-year deal is intended to build on Proton's previous work on developing fuel cells for applicationsn that don't depend on an extensive hydrogen infrastructure. The company unveiled its first "triple-hybird" forklift truck incorporating a supercapacitor and battery last September and has been targeting areas such as materials handling and utility vehicles. • Earlier this month, Proton announced a memorandum of understanding with Karmann to work on the Ecocarrier, a vehicle designed by the EcoCraft Automotive company based on a new frame and electric drive concept.
