  PSA hybrid arrangement suits four-wheel-drive

2 October 2008

PSA Peugeot Citroën has unveiled a novel diesel-electric hybrid arrangement called HYmotion4 with the rear wheels driven by an electric motor and the front wheels by a diesel engine. The system is on show at the Paris Motor Show from today.

HYmotion4 gives the advantages of four-wheel drive without the drawbacks in weight and fuel use, PSA said. The cars on show at Paris feature a 2-litre HDi diesel engine with FAP particulate filter, stop and start, and a six-speed compact automatic gearbox. The powertrain delivers a full 200hp.

The models shown at Paris are intended for production from 2011. The company said that by then it expected more than a million Peugeot and Citroën cars would feature hybrid stop and start technology.
