Wabco wins E-Class suspension compressors deal

16 April 2009

Wabco is to supply a new version of its high performance compressors for the Airmatic suspension system in the new Mercedes E-Class.

The new single-stage dry-running reciprocating piston compressor has an integrated air drier that dehumidifes the air to prevent the valves from freezing up.

Wabco says that performance of the compressors has been improved through better piston sealing, with a change from a piston ring to a gasket, and a lighter design of outlet valve. Noise levels have been cut and costs reduced.

Wabco first supplied compressors for Mercedes' Airmatic suspension systems on the S-Class in 1998. It says that between 2000 and 200-8 demand for air suspension systems in passenger cars almost tripled.
